GHMC Seals Over 100 Properties Across Hyderabad, Issues 74,732 Red Notices as OTS Window Closes March 31 – ₹847 Crore Collected with ₹3,000 Crore Target

Hyderabad, March 2026 – The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has dramatically escalated property tax enforcement in the final days of FY 2025-26, sealing over 100 establishments across its 30 circles and booking chronic defaulters under the provisions of the GHMC Act. The crackdown spans the Core Urban Region, covering 28.08 lakh properties across GHMC, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation. Of the 28,80,260 properties assessed, approximately 17 lakh have paid their tax, leaving over 11 lakh in arrears across the three corporations. Those booked include Srilakshmi Gyathri Hotels (Katriya Hotel) in Khairatabad with dues of ₹6.16 crore pending since 2017; Aurora College, Nampally (₹1.28 crore since 2016); Swarna Transport, Goshamahal (₹43.78 lakh since 2016); Sony Center, Goshamahal (₹39.68 lakh since 2018); Shameem Sultana Cloth Mall, Banjara Hills (₹35.27 lakh since 2014); and Synfosys Business Solutions, Nagarjuna Circle (₹17.94 lakh since 2012).

The Numbers: Collections, Targets, and the Enforcement Machinery

GHMC has so far collected ₹847.1 crore in property tax this enforcement cycle. Khairatabad zone recorded the highest collections at ₹375 crore, while Charminar zone reported the lowest at ₹59 crore. GHMC also sealed Sultan Class Mall on Road No.10, Banjara Hills, over property tax dues of ₹35.25 lakh. Officials said strict action against defaulters would continue as the deadline for the OTS scheme approaches.

Three major discrepancies have been detected in the assessment system: property owners undervaluing tax through self-assessment by entering lower plinth areas; additional floors being built without being brought under the tax net; and properties with commercial activities operating under residential assessments. To address this, GHMC is mapping property tax identification numbers with unique service connections of TSSPDCL to cross-verify property usage and footprint.

The OTS Window – Closing March 31

GHMC rolled out its One-Time Settlement Scheme 2025-26, under which property owners clearing the entire principal amount of pending dues need to pay only 10% of the accrued interest with the remaining 90% waived. GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan directed officials to step up recovery efforts and take strict action against chronic defaulters, while civil authorities made clear that no leniency will be shown to those who have failed to clear dues despite repeated notices. The OTS scheme closes on March 31.
