PM Modi Launches ₹33,500 Crore Development Projects in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 7, 2026, launched development projects worth ₹33,500 crore in Delhi. The initiatives aim to improve connectivity, create jobs, modernize housing, and strengthen the city’s infrastructure.

A major focus is expanding the Delhi Metro network. Under Phase IV, two new metro lines were inaugurated: the 12.3 km Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur line (Pink Line) and the 9.9 km Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park line (Magenta Line). These routes will benefit North and Northeast Delhi, covering areas such as Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, Madhuban Chowk, Bhalswa, and Haiderpur Badli Mor.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation for three new Phase V metro corridors—RK Ashram Marg–Indraprastha, Aerocity–IGI Airport Terminal 1, and Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj—covering 16.1 km, further improving city-wide connectivity. Union minister Manohar Lal Khattarhighlighted that the first Delhi Metro line, inaugurated by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee 24 years ago, has now become a symbol of modern India.

Another key component is the redevelopment of seven government housing colonies under the GPRA programme: Mohammadpur, Thyagraj Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, Sriniwaspuri, Nauroji Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, and Netaji Nagar. NBCC (India) Limited is redeveloping Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, and Nauroji Nagar, while Central Public Works Department is handling the other colonies.

During the event, over 2,700 new residential flats in Sarojini Nagar and Kasturba Nagar were inaugurated, along with three office towers in Netaji Nagar, providing modern homes and workplaces.

The government also laid the foundation for Bharat Business Park in Sarojini Nagar, which will feature eight office towers covering 2.17 lakh square metres. The buildings will include eco-friendly features like solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and rainwater harvesting systems, turning it into a major commercial hub.

Officials say these projects will significantly enhance Delhi’s infrastructure, improve housing, modernize public transport, and strengthen the city’s commercial and residential landscape.
