Prayagraj, March 2026 – The Prayagraj Development Authority is set to construct more than 1,000 flats under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Phase 2 for landless poor families in urban areas, helping them avoid high rentals and achieve homeownership. Land correspondence has already been initiated by the PDA, with four bighas in Peepal Village, four thousand square metres of land near Dhobi Ghat, and three thousand square metres in the Khuldabad area already inspected. Discussions are ongoing between Prayagraj Municipal Commissioner Sai Teja and PDA Vice President Rishiraj to identify additional land in the Civil Lines area with the state’s municipal corporation expected to transfer the identified land to PDA for housing construction.
The District Urban Development Agency is currently facilitating online applications, with more than 63,000 applications received for affordable housing across the city of which nearly 70% of applications reviewed so far have been found eligible. The PDA will provide flats on a priority basis once they are ready.
The Broader Prayagraj Housing Ecosystem
The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation is preparing to launch a redevelopment initiative across 88 vacant and fenced plots located in localities such as Naini, Jhunsi, Phaphamau, Bamrauli, and Jhalwa with plans to construct multi-storey buildings featuring commercial shops on the ground and first floors and residential flats above, aimed at boosting civic income while addressing illegal encroachments.
Additionally, construction of more than 1,000 flats is expected to create significant direct and indirect employment in logistics, materials, and labour, boosting MSMEs. Enhanced affordability is likely to attract migrants for work and spur real estate growth. New homeowners spending on utilities, groceries, and services will stimulate retail, transport, and other sectors. Women beneficiaries may gain asset security, empowering household decision-making.
Location Context: Post-Maha Kumbh Prayagraj
Prayagraj has undergone significant infrastructure transformation in the years preceding and following the Maha Kumbh 2025 with road widening, flyover construction, riverfront development, and civic beautification across major corridors. The PDA is actively identifying land near newly upgraded roads for residential development, with plans to acquire 150–200 hectares for new housing schemes including plots and flats. The Naini and Jhunsi areas now under PMC’s expanded tax jurisdiction, represent the primary residential growth frontier, complementing established residential corridors in Civil Lines and Allahabad University zones.
